4. “Mendicants, I will teach you what is good and what is not good.
5. Listen and apply your mind well, I will speak.”
6. “Yes, sir,” they replied.
7. The Buddha said this:
8. “And what, mendicants, is not good?
9. Killing living creatures, stealing, and sexual misconduct; speech that’s false, divisive, harsh, or nonsensical; covetousness, ill will, and wrong view.
10. This is called what is not good.
11. And what is good?
12. Avoiding killing living creatures, stealing, and sexual misconduct; avoiding speech that’s false, divisive, harsh, or nonsensical; contentment, good will, and right view.
13. This is called what is good.”
