5. This was said by the Buddha, the Perfected One: that is what I heard.
6. “Mendicants, give up one thing
7. and I guarantee you non-return.
8. What one thing?
9. Greed is the one thing. Give it up,
10. and I guarantee you non-return.”
11. The Buddha spoke this matter.
12. On this it is said:
13. “When overcome by greed
14. beings go to a bad place.
15. Having rightly understood that greed,
16. the discerning give it up.
17. Once they’ve given it up,
18. they never return to this world.”
19. This too is a matter that was spoken by the Blessed One: that is what I heard.
