3. Chapter One
4. Feelings (1st)
5. This was said by the Buddha, the Perfected One: that is what I heard.
6. “Mendicants, there are these three feelings.
7. What three?
8. Pleasant, painful, and neutral feeling.
9. These are the three feelings.”
10. The Buddha spoke this matter.
11. On this it is said:
12. “Stilled, aware,
13. a mindful disciple of the Buddha
14. understands feelings,
15. the cause of feelings,
16. where they cease,
17. and the path that leads to their ending.
18. With the ending of feelings, a mendicant
19. is hungerless, quenched.”
20. This too is a matter that was spoken by the Blessed One: that is what I heard.
