5. This was said by the Buddha, the Perfected One: that is what I heard.
6. “Mendicants, a mendicant should examine in any such a way that their consciousness is neither scattered and diffused externally nor stuck internally, and they are not anxious because of grasping.
7. When this is the case and they are no longer anxious, there is for them no coming to be of the origin of suffering—of rebirth, old age, and death in the future.”
8. The Buddha spoke this matter.
9. On this it is said:
10. “For one who has given up seven chains,
11. a mendicant who has cut the cord,
12. transmigration through births is finished,
13. there’ll be no more no more future lives for them.”
14. This too is a matter that was spoken by the Blessed One: that is what I heard.
