5. Standing to one side, that deity addressed the Buddha in verse:
6. “Living in the wilderness,
7. peaceful spiritual practitioners
8. eat just one meal a day:
9. so why is their complexion so clear?”
10. “They don’t grieve for the past,
11. nor do they pray for the future;
12. they feed on whatever comes that day,
13. that’s why their complexion’s so clear.
14. Because they long for the future,
15. and grieve for the past,
16. fools wither away,
17. like a green reed mowed down.”
