2. The Discourse on Love
3. Those who are skilled in the meaning of scripture
4. should practice as follows
   to realize the state of peace.
5. Let them be capable and upright, very upright,
6. easy to speak to, gentle and humble;
7. content and unburdensome,
8. unbusied, living lightly,
9. alert, with senses calmed,
10. courteous, not fawning on families.
11. Let them not do the slightest thing
12. that others might blame with reason.
13. May they be happy and safe!
14. May all beings be happy!
15. Whatever living creatures there are
16. with not a one left out—
17. frail or firm, long or large,
18. medium, small, tiny or round,
19. seen or unseen,
20. living far or near,
21. those who have been born
    and those about to be born—
22. may all beings be happy!
23. Let none deceive another,
24. nor look down on anyone anywhere.
25. Though provoked or aggrieved,
26. let them not wish pain on each other.
27. Even as a mother would protect with her life
28. her child, her only child,
29. so too for all creatures
30. unfold a boundless heart.
31. With love for the whole world,
32. unfold a boundless heart:
33. above, below, all round,
34. unconstricted, without enmity or foe.
35. When standing, walking, sitting,
36. or lying down while yet unweary,
37. keep this ever in mind;
38. for this, they say, is a divine meditation
    in this life.
39. Avoiding harmful views,
40. virtuous, accomplished in insight,
41. with desire for sensual pleasures dispelled,
42. they never return to a womb again.
