5. If no-one else is found
6. before or behind,
7. it’s extremely pleasant
8. to be dwelling alone in a forest grove.
9. Come now, I’ll go alone
10. to the wilderness praised by the Buddha.
11. It’s pleasant for a mendicant
12. to be dwelling alone and resolute.
13. Alone and self-disciplined,
14. I’ll quickly enter the delightful forest,
15. which gives joy to meditators,
16. and is frequented by rutting elephants.
17. In the Cool Grove, so full of flowers,
18. in a cool mountain cave,
19. I’ll bathe my limbs
20. and walk mindfully alone.
21. When will I dwell alone,
22. without a companion,
23. in the great wood, so delightful,
24. my task complete, free of defilements?
25. This is what I want to do:
26. may my wish succeed!
27. I’ll make it happen myself,
28. for no-one can do another’s duty.
29. Fastening my armor,
30. I’ll enter the forest.
31. I won’t leave
32. without attaining the end of defilements.
33. As the cool gale blows
34. with fragrant scent,
35. I’ll split ignorance apart,
36. sitting on the mountain-peak.
37. In a forest grove covered with blossoms,
38. in a cave so very cool,
39. I take pleasure in the Mountainfold,
40. happy with the happiness of freedom.
41. I’ve got all I wished for
42. like the moon on the fifteenth day.
43. With the utter ending of all defilements,
44. now there’ll be no more future lives.
