5. When a person, wishing for a certain outcome,
6. applies themselves where they ought not;
7. not achieving what they worked for,
8. they say: “That’s a sign of my bad luck.”
9. When a misfortune is extracted and beaten,
10. to surrender it in part would be like losing at dice;
11. but to surrender it all you’d have to be blind,
12. not seeing the even and the uneven.
13. You should only say what you would do;
14. you shouldn’t say what you wouldn’t do.
15. The wise will recognize
16. one who talks without doing.
17. Just like a glorious flower
18. that’s colorful but lacks fragrance;
19. well-spoken speech is fruitless
20. for one who does not act on it.
21. Just like a glorious flower
22. that’s both colorful and fragrant,
23. well-spoken speech is fruitful
24. for one who acts on it.
