7. was not enough for me to bow to him—
8. I was blinded by jealousy and conceit.
9. Knowing my thoughts,
10. the trainer of men scolded me.
11. I was struck with a sense of urgency,
12. so astonishing and hair-raising!
13. Rejecting the petty powers
14. I had before as a matted-hair ascetic,
15. I then went forth
16. in the victor’s instruction.
17. I used to be content with sacrifice,
18. the realm of sensual pleasures was my priority.
19. But later I eradicated desire,
20. and hatred and also delusion.
21. I know my past lives;
22. my clairvoyance is clarified;
23. I have psychic powers, and know the minds of others;
24. I have attained clairaudience.
25. I’ve attained the goal
26. for the sake of which I went forth
27. from the lay life to homelessness—
28. the ending of all fetters.
