4. Sopāka (2nd)
5. I saw the supreme person
6. walking mindfully in the shade of the terrace,
7. so I approached,
8. and bowed to the supreme among men.
9. Arranging my robe over one shoulder
10. and clasping my hands together,
11. I walked alongside that stainless one,
12. supreme among all beings.
13. The wise one, expert in questions,
14. questioned me.
15. Brave and fearless,
16. I answered the teacher.
17. When all his questions were answered,
18. the Realized One congratulated me.
19. Looking around the mendicant Saṅgha,
20. he said the following:
21. “It is a blessing for the people of Aṅga and Magadha
22. that this person enjoys their
23. robe and almsfood,
24. requisites and lodgings,
25. their respect and service—
26. it’s a blessing for them,” he declared.
27. “Sopāka, from this day on
28. you are invited to come and see me.
29. And Sopāka, let this
30. be your ordination.”
31. At seven years old
32. I received ordination.
33. I bear my final body—
34. oh, the excellence of the teaching!
